Celebrate craftsmanship and cultural heritage with the Zambia Stacking Vessels—a collaborative collection created with refugee women living in UN camps in Zambia. Each piece pairs a hand-blown glass base with a basket woven from locally sourced Makenge root, reflecting the skill, creativity, and individuality of its maker.

No two vessels are alike. Every woven basket carries the unique signature of its artisan, while the glass base provides a luminous, tactile counterpart, creating a harmonious balance between natural materials and functional design. The vessels can be disassembled into two components—a delicate glass vase and a woven basket—allowing them to be used together or separately, as both decorative objects and practical vessels.

Each element is handmade with care:

  • Glass: Hand-blown to capture light, form, and clarity

  • Basket: Woven by refugee artisans using traditional techniques and locally sourced Makenge root

Designed and prototyped in 2023 with the support of MADE51, the Zambia Stacking Vessels embody the power of creative collaboration, giving voice and opportunity to refugee artisans while bringing functional artistry into the home.
