 Raku Process

Crafting the Butterfly vessel on the pottery wheel, shaping the ceramic design at Utopia & Utility.

IIt starts on the wheel

The Butterfly bowl is made from earthenware clay, turned on a wheel into a bowl shape with a rim .

Precision is important as the ceramic has to fit the glass.

Glaze

The bowls are glazed by splashing the mixture over the upside down bowl. Excess is cleaned with a sponge and the glazed pieces are put inside a gas heated kiln.

From the kiln (+900°C) they go straight inside the oak wood chips

Revelation
