Amphora

Handblown and coldworked glass, Czechia / handturned wood, Germany / handspun metal, London, UK

A Stacking Vessel with large overlapping diamond wheel cuts ranging from rough to fine, combined with a spun metal bowl and topped with a bark edge wood bowl.

Amphora can be taken apart and will form a large glass vase, a large metal bowl and a tall wooden container.

Designed and prototyped in 2020.
Permanent collection.

Dimensions are approximate, due to the handmade nature of the materials.
The materials come to our warehouse in Germany where they are fitted and assembled.

Surface Coldworking

 

Marking

The Glass is section​ed

The bowls are glazed by splashing the mixture over the upside down bowl. Excess is cleaned with a sponge and the glazed pieces are put inside a gas heated kiln.

From the kiln (+900°C) they go straight inside the oak wood chips

Cutting

The cutting starts 

A wet diamond wheel is used to make the cuts in the surface of the glass. Cut by cut the material is removed iin approximately 10cm long movements.

Edge finishing

Finishing

The edge is finished last, after this finer cuts are made in some parts of the Vessel. The rim of the glass is polished and a nano laqcuer applied to protect the surface.
