Colour and clear meetFor these pieces we work with special colour bars that react to heat to give interesting results
Edge finishing
Glass edgeOnce the glass bubble is blown, it is attached to another iron (this is called a punty) and the bubble opened up and shaped.
The colour is on the inside of the bubble, and at this stage the heat can reach the colour.
With an oxygen rich flame, the edge is heated to bring out this silver lining.
Surface
FinishingThe finished piece is “knocked off” the iron.
Using cold water to shock and a metal spike to create tension, the glass comes off the blowing iron.
The area where it was attached is reheated and our logo embossed to complete the piece before putting it quickly away to cool without stress.
